Paducah Wall to Wall Book

Paducah Wall to Wall is proud to publish a full-color, paper back compilation of the magnificent three blocks of Dafford Murals on Paducah’s downtown floodwall. Dedicated to the family of Bill and Meredith Schroeder for their support and willingness to collaborate with Paducah Wall to Wall from day one. Their ability to reach out and pull families and businesses together to create this 24/7 public art and history project has provided our region with a magnificent jewel on our downtown

riverfront. Bill (1931-2017) was always confident in the future of this project. Meredith carries on the family legacy by sponsoring this publication of Paducah’s history in Dafford Murals.

On the cover, Mayor Montgomery is standing on the riverfront with the Red-coated Paducah Ambassadors as they “Greet the Queens”. On July 2, 1996 all three paddle wheelers docked at the Port of Paducah. Montgomery created the Ambassador organization when she was Mayor and today the all-volunteer organization continues to welcome visitors from far and near.

In Appreciation of The Montgomery Family

Dr. Wally and Gerry Montgomery were Paducah treasures. Dr Wally (1936-2019) enjoyed sharing Paducah’s history and giving tours along the floodwall images. As a beloved Paducah surgeon and philanthropist, he supported and actively promoted this UNESCO Creative City.

Gerry (Paducah’s Mayor from 1988-1996) always knew that great things were happening in this creative city. She envisioned ribbons of colorful images lining Paducah’s riverfront. In the early 90s, before the Dafford mural project ever began, she and Bill Schroeder would talk about how Paducah could look in 2020. Her visionary leadership in our community, region and state was immeasurable.
